Kansas to pay $1.9M for losses in court

Kansas politicians are pointing fingers at each other, and especially former Secretary of State Kris Kobach, over a failed voting law that will now cost taxpayers about $1.9 million in legal fees. The Legislature’s Joint Committee on Special Claims Against the State formally recommended settlement pay ments of $1.4 million to the American Civil Liberties Union and $475,000 to a second law firm, Dentons US LLP.

Toys for Tots brings holiday cheer

These are just a few of the 170 bags of books and toys that were distributed as part of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation event. Organizers said that between 1,500 and 1,600 toys and books were collected thanks to the generosity of corporate sponsors, students at various area schools, businesses and non-profi�ts that served as collection points, and Big Creek Crossing, which provided free space for the toy distribution on Dec. 20 and 21.
