Decision on NYC New Year’s Eve this week

NEW YORK – The fate of the annual New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square will be decided this week. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Sunday a decision will be made by Christmas on whether to hold the event as in previous years before the pandemic, now that the omicron variant is spreading rapidly through the city and officials are scrambling to increase testing capacity amid heightened demand.

Trump sues NY attorney general; seeks to stop probe

WASHINGTON – Donald Trump sued New York Attorney General Letitia James on Monday in what legal experts described as a longshot bid to block her investigation into his business practices. The former president’s lawsuit alleges that James’ investigation is driven by “political animus.” “The investigations commenced by James are in no way connected to legitimate law enforcement goals,” but are instead “a thinly-veiled effort to publicly malign Trump and his associates,” the lawsuit argues.
