County begins RHID creation process for Pray's Big Creek Estates project

On June 3, 2025, following extensive discussion, by unanimously approving Resolution 2025-08 (which identifies the housing need in Ellis County and initiates the statutory process) Ellis County Commissioners took the first steps in the creation of a Reinvestment Housing Incentive District (RHID) for the proposed Big Creek Estates project. “Adam Pray, who works with Platinum Group proposes the construction of 13 new homes in the Big Creek Estates subdivision.

With HYS fate at stake, City Commissioners urge residents to contact legislators

Near the end of the May 22, 2025, Hays City Commission Regular meeting, all Commissioners urged anyone who can to contact their legislators regarding the 52% cut in funding cut to the Essential Air Services (EAS) Program, in the proposed Federal 2026 Budget which the U.S. House of Representative recently passed by a small margin.

County Commissioners to discuss subdivision roads again with Wilson (Stonewood Estates North Addition) in 60 days

As Ellis County Commissioners devoted over one third of their nearly three-hour long May 20, 2025 Meeting to Subdivision Road Infrastructure and included Mr. Ty Wilson (from Stonewood Estates North Addition) in 20 minutes of this discussion as the previously scheduled “Ongoing Subdevelopment Conversation” with residents.

City Commission seeks more community input on backyard chickens

Following a 20-minute discussion during the May 15, 2025, Hays City Commission Work Session, Commissioners directed City Staff to conduct an online poll in an effort to gather more community input regarding a proposed ordinance permitting up to five hens (no roosters) city-wide, within a fenced back or side yard, fenced-in coop, with no registration required. The one-question online survey asks if residents support, oppose, or have no opinion regarding the proposed new ordinance.
