TOPEKA – The HBC Hammer 18U baseball team advanced to the championship game of the Perfect Game Kansas Invitational wood-bat tournament on Sunday. After winning earlier in the day in the semifinals, 3-2 over Midwest Prospects, Hays lost in the title game 11-3 to Cavalier Baseball Club. HBC Hammer finished 5-1 on the weekend to improve to 11-6 for the season.

Tyler LaRue’s hot start at the plate for the Hays Larks is due in part because he knows he has teammates who are hitting the ball well, too. “The main thing that’s helped me get off to a quick start is relaxing,” said LaRue, who is leading the Larks in batting at .478, along with two home runs and 20 RBIs.
