
Tiger Wrestling fall just short in MIAA dual against the Mules

The Fort Hays State Baseball team traveled to Ozark, MO in search of their first win over the weekend, but came up short against the Drury Panthers. In game one, the Tiger bats found eight hits but were not able to produce runs.

COLBY – Freshman Claudine Stein made school history Saturday, becoming the first girls’ wrestler from Thomas More Prep-Marian to advance to the state tournament. Stein – also the first girl to compete in wrestling for the Monarchs – finished third at 143 pounds at the Class 4-1A regional.

WICHITA – Sarah Zimmerman took sixth at the state girls’ wrestling tournament as a freshman. She was the runner-up at last year’s season finale. After winning Saturday’s regional championship, the Hays High junior 109-pounder will be looking to win it all at the Class 6A-5A State Championships at Wichita’s Hartman Arena on Feb. 23-24.

No doubt the retribution the Tigers were looking for after a tough loss to Northeastern State on Monday. “We played much better, I thought our kids played really hard, our effort was excellent and I thought we got good play from a lot of kids,” Head Coach Tony Hobson said.

A close second half made for a nailbiter in Gross Memorial Coliseum as the Tigers fought off the Riverhawks 66-57. Starting off hot, Fort Hays used a 12-2 run to gain momentum and lead Northeastern State by double digits.

The Tiger softball team had a tough outing against the Lone-Star conference, but came out with a win to end the weekend 1-3. Day 1 The Tigers opened up the weekend with a match up against the Southern Nazarene Friday afternoon.

The Fort Hays State Wrestling team suffered a tough loss against the no. 4 ranked Lopers Friday night.
