Their third consecutive win, the Hays High girls basketball team never surrendered the lead on their way to a 33-27 win over the Colby Eagles. “Last year, we didn’t go into the locker room and say ‘Hey that was an ugly win’, we didn’t have that blessing, it was really refreshing to go in and know that even if you didn’t play your best game, it’s a win,” Head Coach Len Melvin said of the defensive outing.

Their 15th victory of the season, the Hays High boys basketball team cruised to a 71-50 win over the Colby Eagles Friday night. Colby struck first gaining a 3-0 lead but the Indians were quick to answer back.
In a game against Russell earlier in the week, the Thomas More Prep-Marian boys’ basketball team got off to a slow start offensively. That wasn’t the case in Friday night’s MCL game against Phillipsburg, with TMP winning 61-35 at Al Billinger Fieldhouse.

Thomas Moore Prep-Marian hosted Ellis and Trego in a varsity double dual Thursday night at Al Billinger Fieldhouse. Though TMP’s three wrestlers came out victorious in each match, open weight classes gave both Ellis and Trego the advantage.

The Monarch girls were in the pole position in the MCL race going into Friday night’s game against Phillipsburg. After a 44-40 double-overtime loss in Al Billinger Fieldhouse, the Thomas More Prep-Marian girls’ basketball team is now in a three-horse race for the league title.

Coach Tony Hobson had a feeling his Fort Hays State University women’s basketball team would bounce back after Monday’s shocking loss to a four-win Northeastern State (Okla.) squad. “I did after practice yesterday,” Hobson said Thursday night after the fourth-ranked Tigers’ 78- 49 MIAA victory over Rogers State (Okla.) at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

In a defensive, grindit-out MIAA game, the Tigers clawed their way past the Hillcats 62-47 Thursday night at Gross M“I felt it was two similar styles of basketball, two physical teams that really got after it on the defensive end,” Fort Hays State University men’s basketball coach Mark Johnson said.

The Hays High Swim team celebrated their senior night Thursday afternoon during the WAC tournament championship. The team finished in fourth place with a total score of 398 points.
