William 'Bill' Leon Mattheyer

William "Bill" Leon Mattheyer, 87, died Monday Dec. 22, 2014, in WaKeeney.

He was born Oct. 10, 1927, south of Chandler, Okla., to John Robert and Joyce Ann (McCullough) Mattheyer.

He married Fern Mattheyer on Dec. 26, 1958, in Okema, Okla. He came to northwest Kansas with Texaco Inc. in 1950, working in the oilfield as a roustabout and pumper. He lived a short time in Russell and Hill City, then settled in WaKeeney for the last 54 years, retiring from Texaco after 39 years.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, Michael, Winfield, Steve, Oswego, Troy and wife, Yvonne. Ellis, and Jeff and wife, Nicole, WaKeeney; two brothers, Prentice and J.W., both of Oklahoma; a sister, Joyce May Seelig, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were Saturday at Ogallah Christian Church; burial in WaKeeney Cemetery.
