Ellis County has filed in district court tax foreclosure petitions involving 22 tracts of property with delinquent taxes, interest and penalties totaling more than $185,500.
Property owners who are at least three years delinquent paying Ellis County ad valorem taxes are in danger of entering the foreclosure process. All property owners involved have been notified, said Ann Pfeifer, Ellis County treasurer.
If property owners fail to redeem their real estate by paying the delinquent amount, they risk their property being sold at auction. If such an auction is scheduled this year, owners have until the day before the planned sale to redeem their property. Once property is sold at auction, that sale is final, Pfeifer said.
Ellis County has not had a foreclosed property auction since 2010. A date has not yet been set for a sale this year.
