SMITH COUNTY — One person was injured in an accident on U.S. Highway 36 and Kansas Highway 8 at 3:02 p.m. Wednesday.
Gwen R. Eads, 55, Sterling, Ill., was eastbound in a 1997 Mercury on U.S. 36. Eads turned on a right turn signal and began to turn right, but then turned left without signaling, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Steven N. Kraft, 48, Summerville, W.Va., also was traveling eastbound on U.S. 36 in a 2014 Freightliner semi, pulling a 2009 Wabash trailer.
Kraft attempted to miss Eads, but struck the Mercury in the driver's side door.
The Mercury came to rest facing northwest in a field north of the highway. The semi came to rest on the north shoulder.
Eads was transported to Smith County Hospital with possible injuries.
Both drivers were wearing safety restraints.
