HAYSVILLE -- The Hays Larks lost, 4-2, on the road Friday night to the Haysville Heat, the last place team in the Jayhawk League. Joey Begel took the loss in a quality start. He pitched six innings and allowed three runs on five hits with five strikeouts against two walks.

Brett Macari, the Fort Hays State University first team all-MIAA closer this spring, pitched two innings in his first appearance with the Larks. He allowed three hits and one run. Haysville led 3-0 after five innings with two runs in the third and another in the fifth. Hays came back with two runs in the sixth, while Haysville scored their final run in the eighth. Austin Darby went 3-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Larks.

Aaron Cornell went 2-of-5, while Jon Ryan doubled and had the team's lone RBI.

Hays is 18-10 overall, 12-10 in the Jayhawk League and is 6-7 on the road this season. The series continues Saturday and Sunday. Next Thursday is the Larks' fourth annual Military Appreciation Night at Larks Park. Game time is 7 p.m. against Dodge City.

All active, reserve, and retired military personnel are specially invited to attend the baseball game and be honored on the field during pre-game ceremonies. Military personnel will also be recognized after the sixth inning prior to the singing of "God Bless America". Military personnel in attendance should check in at the east side of the grandstand by 6:45 PM that evening.
