The New Year's Eve party scheduled to be conducted by Rose Garden Steak Haus and Catering at Rose Garden Banquet Hall, Hays, has been publicly canceled effective this morning.

"We canceled it because we haven't sold any tickets," said Rose Garden Steak Haus and Catering owner Pam Burgardt. "We just made that decision last night."

Monday, organizers were actively promoting the event.

"We've had a lot of phone calls the last couple of days," Rose Garden manager Erika Mabb said on Monday. "Hopefully we can get it filled up and have a good donation to give to USD 489."

When asked if there was a possibility if tickets could sell out, Mabb said, "We very well could."

"We are going to have it set up for around 300 people, but we can always add to it," she said Monday. However, tickets to be sold were not distributed to some ticket outlets until early this week. "Tickets were delivered to the Welcome Center on Monday," Hays Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tammy Wellbrock said.

Members of USD 489 Foundation received email notifications Tuesday announcing the event was canceled due to lack of ticket sales, said superintendent of Hays Recreation Commission Roger Bixenman.

The cancellation "won't effect our foundation," Bixenman said. "We have other fundraisers."

Rose Garden sent out emails to interested parties Tuesday and posted a cancellation "due to unforeseen reasons" on its Facebook page at approximately 9 a.m. today.
