Enough is enough

It hasn't been that long ago the Hays USD 489 school district administration and board of education recommended property owners support a tax increase to support school funding.

For good reason, that proposal soundly was defeated.

Now property owners are being asked to support a tax increase for what appears to be (for the most part) fiscal irresponsibility. Either the school board, the administration or both are responsible for this $1 million-plus shortfall.

I could provide countless lines of text why this additional tax is unfair and unnecessary. The bottom line is the residential and commercial property owners within USD 489 already are paying far more than their fair share in support of public education.
