Ronald L. “Ron” Pfannenstiel, 65, Hays, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at his home.

He was born Feb. 7, 1949, in Hays to Ted and Rosie (Kisner) Pfannenstiel. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy, and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Fort Hays State University.

He married Lynette Bickle on June 12, 1982. He was a middle school teacher for many years in Burrton, where he also coached football and basketball. He sold Knights of Columbus Insurance for many years and later sold insurance and investments for Lincoln Investments.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Third Degree Council No. 1325 Knights of Columbus and the Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his ex-wife, Lynette, Hays; three sons, TJ Pfannenstiel and wife, Ashley, and Zachary Pfannenstiel and wife, Renee, all of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Garrett Pfannenstiel and wife, Claudia, Hays; a daughter, Whitney Pfannenstiel, Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers; Michael Pfannenstiel and wife, Anne, Manassas, Va., and Wesley Pfannenstiel and wife, Nancy, Broken Arrow, Okla.; two sisters, Debbie Kingsley and husband, Doug, Hollister, Mo., and Christine Unrein and husband, Bruce, Hays; and four grandchildren, Addison and Sam Pfannenstiel and Ryan and Nathan Engel.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 7 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church; inurnment in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 6 and from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Oct. 7, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601.

A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6, followed by a combined third and fourth degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., both at the funeral home.  

Memorials are suggested to Fresenius Medical Care Dialysis Clinic at Hays Medical Center in care of the funeral home.
