GOODLAND — Five people were killed in a two-vehicle wreck approximately 11 miles east of Goodland Wednesday morning.
According the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2004 Toyota Sequoia was eastbound on Interstate 70 at 2:15 a.m. when it was struck from behind by a 2016 Volvo semi driven by Yuriy P. Mudrenko, 27, Antelope, Calif.
The Toyota veered into the south ditch, where it tipped and came to rest on its top. Five passengers died and several others were injured, including the driver, Calvin Florez, 42, Guatemala. He was transported to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita. He was wearing a safety restraint.
The identities of the fatalities are not known, according to the KHP report.
The truck driver was taken to Citizens Medical Center, Colby. He was also wearing a safety restraint.
