Hays Middle School Assistant Principal Shannon Demel is listed on the Hays USD 489 personnel transactions as transferring to the position of O’Loughlin Elementary School principal beginning July 1.

Approval of the personnel transactions is on the agenda at tonight’s USD 489 Board of Education meeting.

If the board approves, Demel will replace O’Loughlin Principal Nancy Harman, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Demel, in her 10th year in USD 489, was a teacher at Washington Elementary School for eight years before being named HMS assistant principal in 2013. She replaced Shanna Dinkel, who was named curriculum director.

Also on the personnel transactions was hiring Randall Rath as Hays High football coach. If approved by the BOE, Rath will replace Bo Black, who is leaving after one season to coach in northeast Kansas.
