DODGE CITY — The Hays Sr. Eagles won three games Sunday, including a 5-0 victory against Great Bend, to take home the title at the Dodge City AAA Legion Baseball tournament.

The Eagles went 1-3 in pool play, including a pair of losses Saturday.

After a 5-3 win against Hooker (Okla.) and 3-0 victory against Larned, Hays (10-5) broke a scoreless tie in the ninth inning of Sunday’s championship with five runs in the top half.

Dalton Stout scored Ricky Hockett with a go-ahead RBI single. Dawson Harman piled it on with a two-out, two-RBI single.

Jace Armstrong scored on a Great Bend error before Cole Schumacher’s fourth hit of the day scored Harman on a double to center field, making for a five-run deficit for Great Bend.

Pitcher Bryce Lytle threw eight scoreless for Great Bend before giving up four runs (one earned), eventually finishing after 8.1 innings.

Ricky Hockett threw six scoreless and allowed five hits before being relieved by Stout for the final three innings. Stout allowed just one hitter.

Schumacher finished 4-for-5, just one of two Eagles with multiple hits. Harman finished with a two-hit game.

Hays began the day by overcoming a 3-2 deficit heading into the seventh and final inning in its second game against Hooker. Marcus Altman’s third double of the game scored the tying and go-ahead runs, leading to a 5-3 victory.

Altman led the way with three hits in the 3-0 victory against Larned to advance to the title game.
