MANHATTAN — Greenhouse expansion is moving ahead at the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center in Manhattan, using a $200,000 grant from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, based in Logan, and other sources.
The grant will help pay for the construction of a four-bay greenhouse for molecular and genetic wheat research at the center. A more controlled environment will enhance and accelerate results, according to a press release from the Hansen Foundation.
The expansion will enclose 12,750 square feet, adjacent to existing greenhouses, offices and laboratories at the KWIC. Additional funds comes from the U.S. Economic Development Administration and the Kansas Wheat Commission.
Groundbreaking is later this month.
