BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The Fort Hays State University softball team split its final two games Sunday of the 8-State Classic, picking up their second win of the season.
FHSU started Sunday with a 6-0 loss to East Central University, then got a 3-1 win at Ouachita Baptist to move to 2-8.
In the loss, East Central put up five runs in the third inning to break the game open as FHSU collected just three hits. Tiger starter Lexie Kimminau lasted five innings. She gave up six runs (four earned) on seven hits with a walk to fall to 0-2.
In the win, Hailey Chapman pitched a complete game to move to 3-4 for FHSU. She scattered six hits with two walks and a strikeout. Jeni Mohr had a solo home run to open the Tigers’ scoring in the third inning and Veronica Knitting had an RBI double and Candace Bollig had a fly-out RBI to cap FHSU’s scoring.
The Tigers are at home for the first time Wednesday when they play host to Wayne State (Neb.) College in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Tiger Stadium.
