It was a banner day Sunday for the Fort Hays State University soccer programs.
The Tiger men pushed their unbeaten streak to 10 matches with a 1-1 overtime draw with No. 15 Northeastern (Okla.) State at FHSU Soccer Stadium, while the Fort Hays women recorded an exciting, 2-1 comeback road win over Emporia State University.
FHSU's men, ranked No. 24 in NCAA Division II. The Tigers are now 11-3-2 overall and 8-2-1 in the MIAA heading into their final regular-season league contest at 2 p.m. Thursday with Upper Iowa at Fayetteville.
Sophomore Drew Wilson scored the Tigers' only goal Sunday, in the first half. The score remained 1-0 until Northeastern State tied it up on a penalty kick with about seven minute left in regulation.
The score remained 1-1 after two 10-minute overtime periods, snapping FHSU's string of nine consecutive wins. However, the Tigers haven't lost since Sept. 20.
Senior goalkeeper Kent Freund recorded a season-high eight saves.
At Emporia, the FHSU women snapped a 1-1 tie with a header by sophomore Hannah Smith with less than 20 minutes left in the game for their fourth consecutive victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Kristen Thompson recorded four saves and has allowed just three goals in the past nine games, including a stretch of five straight shutouts.
FHSU's women (10-2-2 overall, 8-2-2 MIAA) will close out a three-game road trip Thursday at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, a team the Tigers defeated 1-0 earlier this season.
Both Fort Hays teams will honor their seniors on Senior Day in Sunday's regular-season finales.
The FHSU men will take on West Texas A&M at 1 p.m., followed by the FHSU-Washburn women at 3:30 p.m.
