Dr. Ward L. Sims, 95, Hutchinson, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Thorne Care Center.

He was born July 7, 1918, in Stafford to Ward P. and Leon C. (Anderson) Sims. He graduated from Minneola High School, Southwestern College, received his master's degree from the University of Colorado, and his doctorate of education from the University of Kansas.

He married Edna M. Beard on April 6, 1942, in Minneola. She preceded him in death Dec. 12, 2002. He was a college professor for the University of New Mexico, Washburn University, Fort Hays State University and the University of Nebraska. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving during World War II.

Survivors include four daughters, Donna Phillips and husband, Alan, Olsburg, Cynthia Swarts and husband, Kim, Colorado Springs, Colo., Linda North and husband, Daryl, Hays, and Janet Sims, Wamego; a brother, Dr. Joe Sims, Wichita; a sister, Donna Brown and husband, Clinton, Colby; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Arthur North.

A private family service will be at a later date; cremation has taken place.
