Scattered showers and strong thunderstorms stretched from the Gulf Coast through the Ohio Valley on Saturday, later moving into the Appalachians and southern New England.

There were several reports of hail from South Carolina through Virginia. Near the storm's low pressure center, snow showers and strong winds were reported in the Upper Midwest.

It was mostly dry in the West, while Kansas and Nebraska got rain.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states ranged from 5 degrees at Berthoud Pass, Colo., to 97 degrees at Yuma, Ariz.
