Hays High School Athletic Director Chris Michaelis confirmed this morning that Abby Maska has resigned as the Indians’ head softball coach.

Maska, also a teacher, will remain with the school, while assuming more duties outside of sports. Maska also resigned as an assistant basketball coach.

Maska, a former player for the Indians, coached the team for seven seasons, guiding the Indians to three state-tournament appearances in Class 5A. HHS took fourth in 5A in 2011 with a 22-3 record. In seven seasons, Maska was 101-54, with Hays High going 5-16 this spring with a first-round loss in the Class 4A Division I regional.

The Indians also made state appearances in 2012 (20-3) and 2014 (18-5).

Michaelis said the job will be posted as soon as possible, and Maska’s resignation will go to the Hays USD 489 Board of Education for approval at Monday’s meeting.
