PLAINVILLE — The Plainville High School boys’ golf team won the MCL Golf Tournament on Thursday at the Rooks County Golf and Country Club, defeating second place Thomas More Prep-Marian by 25 strokes, 309 to 334.

Phillipsburg High School was the third best team with 359, WaKeeney-Trego Community High School taking fourth with 372.

Plainville placed two golfers in the top four, including tournament champion Gunner Kerns, who shot a 1-over-par 71, holding off Trego’s Dion Reetz and Emmit Owens, both of which shot 74 to finish in second and third.

Plainville’s Colton Bobeck was fourth with 75, matching the 75 of Norton High School’s Quinton Porter.

TMP’s best round came from junior Hayden Rohr, who shot 76 for sixth place. Senior Max Megaffin was seventh with 77 and senior Lane Fisher 12th with 82. Collin Werth and Dan O’Connor each shot 83 to finish 13th and 14th, respectively.

Regional golf will take place Monday, with TMP traveling to Garden City’s Buffalo Dunes Golf Course for its Class 4A regional, hosted by Holcomb High School. The regional includes Hays High School.

Plainville’s Class 2A regional, which includes Ellis, Smith Center, Hill City and Trego, will be held Monday at the Stafford County Country Club and hosted by St. John-Hudson.
