Both the boys and girls cross country teams at Thomas More Prep-Marian finished atop the standings in Lyons Tuesday.

The Monarchs boys finished with 19 points in the six-team field. Second-place Sterling totaled 76 points.

Andrew Hess added a first-place medal for the Monarchs, winning the boys race in 17:37. Russell's Noah Gfeller was the second runner to cross the finish line in 18:19.8.

Mark Loftus (18:31.7) and Paul Brull (18:36.6) finished in third and fourth, respectively.

Trevor Pfeifer, Ryan Ruder and Ricky Hockett also finished inside the top 10, although Hockett's time did not factor into the Monarchs' team score.

Rachel Hamel and Julia Werth led the girls team to another first-place finish. Hamel took second in 21:53.8, while Werth finished less than a second behind Hamel in third.

Shelby Stouffer (22:36) added a fifth-place medal, and Alicia Lechman (24:02.8) rounded out the team score, finishing 10th.

The Monarchs girl's team score of 13 was nearly 20 points better than second-place Haven. Only three teams on the girls side had enough runners to submit a team score.

TMP's runners race again at the Mid-Continent League meet in Phillipsburg on Oct. 8.
