Robert D. “Dale” Schaffer, 73, Liebenthal, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 6, 1943, in Seattle, to Julian Adam and Theresa (Knoll) Schaffer. He was a resident of Rush County for 64 years, moving from Maple Valley, Wash. He was a 1961 graduate of Schoenchen High School.

He was an electrician for Herrman Electric and later was a self employed electrician, prior to his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a past Grand Knight for Knights of Columbus Council 2340, Liebenthal.

Survivors include three daughters, Carla Gish, Salina, Carol Schaffer, Hays, and Darla Schaffer, Larned; a brother, Patrick Schaffer, Salina; two sisters, Edith Bollig, Lakewood, Colo., and Judy Kraemer, La Crosse; and five grandchildren, Audrey Jones, Jacey Schaffer, Clayton Gish, Jackie Clark, and Quenten Clark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant granddaughter, Camryn Gish.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Liebenthal; burial in St. Josephs Cemetery, Liebenthal.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse and from 9 to 9:50 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Josephs Catholic Church, Liebenthal, in care of the funeral home.
