Arsenius J. Wasinger, 94, Hays, died Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Trinity Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Merriam.

He was born May 20, 1921, in Schoenchen to Aloysius and Veronica (Zimmerman) Wasinger. He was a 1941 graduate of St. Joseph’s Military Academy.

He married Lucy Karlin on Feb. 13, 1946, in Catharine. She preceded him in death Aug. 10, 2012.

He farmed, raised cattle and was a delivery driver for Mid-Continent Gas Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Secular Franciscans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9076 and Knights of Columbus 3rd degree council No. 1325.

He enjoyed his spare time on the golf course.

Survivors include five daughters, Judy Dischner, San Marcos, Calif., Kathy Ulibarri, Denver, and Barb Fyler, Christine Hanks and Carrie Young, all of Kansas City; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen; his parents; two brothers, Edward Wasinger and Msgr. Alfred Wasinger; and two sisters, Mary Rose Cupparo and Helen Hommel.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors by Hays VFW Post No. 9076 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601.

A Secular Franciscans rosary will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday, a vigil will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in care of the funeral home.
