An officer of the Hays Police Department (HPD) was killed in the line of duty this weekend.

According to the statement released by the City on Sunday morning, at 10:58 p.m. on Saturday, September 27th, HPD responded to a domestic violence call in the 2200 block of Downing Street. Upon arrival, the suspect fired at the responding officer. The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene. The officer was transported to a local hospital and succumbed to injuries sustained at the scene. No additional suspects are being sought and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) will be handling the investigation.
