WaKEENEY — The former police chief of the WaKeeney Police Department was charged with multiple more counts of illegal activity Thursday.

Trego County Attorney Chris Lyon charged Terry Eberle with two counts of perjury and eight counts of making false information, all felonies.

The additional charges stem from an ongoing investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, according to a release from the Trego County Attorney’s Office.

The charges are in addition to previous charges Eberle is facing as well in the Trego County case.

In that case, Eberle is charged with blackmail (felony), making false information (felony), theft (felony and misdemeanor), attempted official misconduct (felony), intimidation of a witness (misdemeanor), harassment by telephone (misdemeanor), tampering with a public record (misdemeanor) and attempted interference with law enforcement (misdemeanor).

The county attorney’s office reminds the public Eberle is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
