Charges have been filed in Ellis County District Court against a Fort Hays State University professor for allegedly selling drugs.

Bryan Bennett, an assistant professor of political science, was arrested Dec. 6. He was placed on a recognizance bond with Community Corrections. As part of that bond agreement, the university placed him on leave.

Charges filed Monday are as follows, according to Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees:

• One count of distribution of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school.

• Once count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

• Two counts of use of a communication facility to commit a drug felony.

Bennett is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
