Fort Hays State University and North Central Kansas Technical College entered into a memorandum of understanding Tuesday, creating a seamless transfer for students who want to continue their education beyond NCK Tech and obtain a bachelor’s degree from FHSU.
Six main career paths were articulated Tuesday: organizational leadership, technology leadership, nursing, health studies, tourism and hospitality management, and technology studies.
This agreement is a win-win for the colleges and students alike.
“FHSU and NCK Tech have had a long-standing, successful partnership based on our shared focus on student success,” said Tisa Mason, president of Fort Hays State, at the signing ceremony held in the Business Occupations Building on NCK Tech’s Hays campus.
“That partnership has been passed down over the years from president to president — a legacy of mutual benefit for which President Burks and I are honored to both continue and enhance,” said President Mason, who was joined by many of her staff and faculty to celebrate the agreement.
NCK Tech President Eric Burks was also joined by many faculty, staff and students from the college’s Beloit and Hays campuses.
“It took the collaboration of so many to make this day a reality,” said President Burks. “We are here to celebrate the fruit of their efforts, we are here to celebrate the partnership between our two institutions, and most importantly we are here to celebrate the opportunity this agreement represents for our community, state, and students.”
Students in over a dozen different associate degree programs will now be able to transfer seamlessly to Fort Hays State University to obtain their bachelor’s degrees. These programs include culinary arts, business management, business technology, carpentry and cabinet making, nursing, general business, agricultural equipment technology, automated controls technology, automotive technology, diesel technology, electrical technology, technical studies, and welding engineering technology.
