RUSSELL — The Hays High baseball team opened the season with a pair of dominant road victories, beating Russell/Victoria 10-2 and 22-8 on Thursday.
In Game 1, Hays took advantage of nine Russell errors and scored in every inning but the first.
Palmer Hutchinson and Trey Riggs each had two hits for the Indians. Riggs picked up the win on the mound, allowing three hits, two runs while striking out nine.
Hays jumped all over Russell in the second game with an 11-run first inning. The Broncos cut the lead to 11-7 in the second inning but the Indians put the game away 10 runs in the fourth.
Hutchinson had three hits in the nightcap while Dawson Harmon and Riggs had two hits each. Harmon drove in four runs and had a triple while also tossing the first three innings. He gave up five hits and seven runs, striking out four.
The Indians will play a doubleheader at Dodge City.
