WICHITA — Jordan Cooper allowed two earned runs and eight hits over 7 2-3 innings to lead the Wichita Wingnuts to a 12-3 win over the Texas AirHogs Friday night in American Association play at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Cooper (5-4) walked two and struck out two for the win. Brady Bowen finished the game for the save, striking out one.

Wichita took a 6-0 lead through seven innings. Texas climbed back into the game with three runs in the top of the eighth, but the Wingnuts put things away with six runs in the bottom of the eighth.

With one out in the eighth, Logan Trowbridge tripled and came home on a Hunter Clanin single. Leo Vargas and Logan Watkins followed with singles to lead the bases. Zach Nehrir hit a three-run triple and came home on an Abel Nieves sacrifice fly.

Tony Thomas drew a walk and came home on a John Nester double.

Watkins finished the game three for four hitting. Nehrir, Nieves, Trowbridge and Clanin each had two hits.

Casio Grider went three for four hitting for Texas with an RBI. Dillon Thomas also drove in a run.

Miguel Rosario (1-7) lasted just four innings on the mound for the AirHogs, striking out four and taking the loss.

Wichita is 32-20, seven games behind Sioux City in the AA South. Texas is 14-37, 24 1/2 games behind Sioux City. Wichita and Texas end the series at 7:05 p.m. today.
