Landri Dotts led the Hays High girls cross country team with a fourth-place finish in the Great Bend meet on Thursday. Dotts finished in 18:01.

Yesenia McDonald placed 12th by finishing in 18:40 while Claire Shippy was 18th (19:13) and Cristina Leos took 24th (19:32). The Indians placed fourth out of five teams.

“Good day for our ladies,” Hays High coach Jerold Harris said. “We battled through hot conditions.”

On the boys side, Johnny Fuller was the only Indian to earn a top-25 finish, clocking a time of 15:18.

“Our men also battled today,” Harris said. “My senior Johnny Fuller just missed a medal with his 16th-place finish.”


The Hays High boys soccer team improved to 1-1 on the season with a 4-2 victory over Wichita Classical on Thursday at Hays High.

Trae McCrae scored two goals while Matt Goodale and Peyton Thorell added a goal each. Thorell also had two assists. 

The Indians will begin play in the Wichita South Invitational on Monday.


The Thomas More Prep-Marian volleyball team went 1-2 in the Abilene quadrangular on Thursday.

The Monarchs beat Concordia 25-10, 25-19 but then lost to Smoky Valley 25-18, 18-25, 18-25 and were defeated by Abilene 24-26, 16-25.

Paris Wolf and Emilee Lane each had 17 kills on the day. Kassidi Yost had 25 assists and Jillian Lowe had 28 digs. 

"Always great competition in Abilene," TMP coach Natausha Dreher said. "While we walked away with two losses, as a staff, we saw a lot of great things. We need to get everyone healthy (setter Sophia Coulter has an ankle injury),  then we will be able to see even more. Emilee Lane really showed her strength on the outside. Our defense battled hard and has shown great tenacity."

TMP is 3-2 on the season and will host a quadrangular with Oakley, Hill City and Ellis on Tuesday.
