A convicted felon was arrested Saturday night after Topeka police said he was found in possession of a firearm after officers heard gunshots in the Hi-Crest neighborhood.

In a news release, Lt. Jerry Monasmith said officers heard several gunshots just before 7:30 p.m. coming from the area south of S.E. 29th and Fremont.

Officers located the source of the gunshots and tried to make contact with the suspect, who led them on a short foot chase, Monasmith said.

The man, identified by police as Todd Andrew Devlin II, 25, was taken into custody and found to have a gun in his possession.

Monasmith said that as a convicted felon, Devlin is prohibited from possessing firearms. He was arrested in connection with criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and booked into the Shawnee County Jail.
