Fort Hays State's Alex Polignano was recognized as MIAA women's soccer defensive player of the week after helping the Tigers post two strong defensive performances last week.
Polignano, a sophomore from Falcon, Colo., played all 202 minutes in the Tigers' two matches last week — a 1-1 draw at Emporia State on Friday and a 1-0 overtime victory over Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday at FHSU soccer stadium. The Tigers allowed 17 shots for the week, an average of 8.5 per match.
Missouri Western's Cassidy Menke was offensive player of the week and Central Missouri's Jordyn Atagi was named goalkeeper of the week.
The FHSU women (2-2-2) will be on the road against Washburn at 6 p.m. on Friday in Topeka.

The Fort Hays State men's soccer team dropped three spots in the United Soccer Coaches Division II poll released Tuesday, coming in at No. 17.
The Tigers went 0-1-1 in road matches against Point Loma Nazarene and Biola University last week.
Fort Hays (3-2-1) begins MIAA play against Southwest Baptist at 1 p.m. Friday in Bolivar, Mo.
