A July car theft and pursuit case has ended with the perpetrator going to prison.

Dru Stropes, 24, was sentenced Monday in Ellis County District Court to eight months in prison on a felony charge of interference with law enforcement.

On the morning of July 6, a 1997 Ford Explorer was stolen from in front of Southside Convenience, 703 Vine. The driver went south on Vine and left the vehicle in a field south of town.

The Kansas Highway Patrol, Ellis County Sheriff’s Office and Hays Police Department established a peirmeter and began a search, locating Stropes with a KHP K9 unit.

At the time of his arrest, Stropes was on post-release supervision for a 2017 felony conviction in Ellis County of possession of drug paraphernalia.
