Glenda R. Hammerschmidt, 71, Victoria, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at The Good Samaritan Society, Ellis.
She was born June 17, 1947, in Russell to Dale and Della (Sander) Post. She married Verlin E. Hammerschmidt on Aug. 21, 1965, at Russell.
She grew up in Oklahoma City and Russell. She was a 1965 graduate of Russell High School and received her Nursing R.N. in 1980 from Fort Hays State University.
She was a registered nurse for more than 30 years, and also an X-ray technician for a few years. She worked at Hadley Hospital, Hays, and Russell Regional Hospital, and was a traveling nurse for a number of hospitals throughout Kansas.
She was a member of St. Fidelis Basilica, Victoria, and V.F.W. Auxiliary Post No. 1751, Victoria. She enjoyed reading, craft working and flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Michael Hammerschmidt and wife, Teresa, Victoria; a daughter, Lisa Norris, Florida; her mother, Della Post, Russell; two brothers, Gerald Post, Hutchinson, and Kenneth Post, Enid, Okla.; four grandchildren, Ashlyn Hammerschmidt, Grant Hammerschmidt, Brittany Porter and Brianna Norris.
She was preceded in death by her father.
A celebration of life will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main St., Victoria, Kansas 67671. A Victoria V.F.W. Auxiliary memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
