A man charged in several burglaries and theft in March was sentenced to probation Monday in Ellis County District Court and will remain in custody with a hold for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Reydesel Garcia, 32, was granted 18 months probation on the primary charge of non-residential burglary and 12 months probation for criminal damage to property. The sentences will run concurrently.
Underlying prison sentences are 16 months for the burglary charge and six months for the criminal damage charge. He also received a concurrent six-month prison sentence for a felony theft charge and will also be required to pay more than $8,000 in restitution.
Garcia will remain in the Ellis County Jail on the ICE hold for up to 30 days.
He was arrested Sept. 12 and charged with three felony counts of non-residential burglary, one count of misdemeanor theft, one count of felony theft three counts of misdemeanor criminal damage to property and one felony count of attempted non-residential burglary for incidents in March.
In November, Garcia pleaded guilty to the non-residential burglary and criminal damage charges for a March 16 incident at Hays Car and Truck Alignment, 701 E. Eighth, and the felony theft charge for taking a safe worth $622 and almost $7,500 in cash from Dollar General, 1208 E. 27th, on March 18.
In the plea agreement, charges were dismissed for misdemeanor theft, two felony counts of non-residential burglary, a felony count of attempted non-residential burglary and two misdemeanor charges of criminal damage to property.
