Jesse “Jack” Clarence Mayhew, 99, Grand Island, Neb., died Dec. 11, 2018, at Lakeview nursing home in Grand Island.
He was born April 22, 1919, near Plainville to Ira Henry Mayhew and Sadie Catherine (Sollenberger) Mayhew.
He attended West Plainville Grade School and graduated from Plainville High School in 1937.
He married Betty Eaton on June 6, 1941 in Palco. He was a farmer, trustee, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, church treasurer for many years at Canaan Chapel in Palco, and a member of the American Legion VFW. He served in the U.S Army from 1944 to 1946, including being stationed in the Philippines.
Survivors include his son Craig (Martha) Mayhew, Grand Island, Neb., daughter Susan (Mike) Russel, Cleveland, Texas; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a sister, Frances Veatch, Plainville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lenora Gibson, Verda Pendergrass, and Agnes Tucker; and brothers, Paul Mayhew and Howard Mayhew.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Plainville Nazarene Church with burial following in Green Mound Cemetery, rural Palco. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 until 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
