Four area players have been selected to play for the West in the 46th annual Kansas Shrine Bowl.
Phillipsburg quarterback Trey Sides, Smith Center lineman Austin Hobelmann, Plainville linemen Ryan Junkermeier and Colby quarterback Jordan Schippers were announced as selections for the West team on Saturday morning.
The Shrine Bowl is set for June 8 at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City.
Sides helped lead Phillipsburg to a 13-0 record and Class 2A state championship, putting up 1,175 yards and 21 touchdowns through the air.
Hobelmann was a key cog on the offensive and defensive lines for Class 1A state champion Smith Center. The 6-foot-1, 240 pounder finished with 119 tackles, nine tackles for loss and six sacks.
Junkermeier logged 90 tackles and helped the Cardinals amass 285 yards per game on offense. Plainville went 10-3 and returned to sub-state before falling to Smith Center.
Schippers, who will play receiver in the Shrine Bowl, rushed for 812 yards and 16 touchdowns and threw for 524 yards and seven scores for the 8-2 Eagles.
