A woman identified as a suspect in thefts at stores on the north end of Hays was arrested Monday when police found her allegedly attempting to break into a house.

Police identified the suspect in a release Thursday as Alicia C. Brull, 29. Brull was allegedly in possession of stolen property when she was arrested.  She is currently in the Ellis County Jail. Charges are pending as of Friday morning, according to Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees.

HPD received reports Monday of a woman stealing purses out of shopping carts and taking billfolds from them in several stores. HPD obtained surveillance video and sent photographs of the woman in a media release and on social media.

Immediately after the release went out, HPD started receiving information from the public on a possible identity.

Police believe she went to the address of one victim and attempted to enter the residence, but did not after hearing someone inside the home.

Shortly after the issuing the public appeal, Officer Ryan Blecha located the woman’s vehicle. She was in the process of breaking into another house when officers located her, according to the release.

The Hays Police Department reminds people to keep an eye on their billfolds, purses, gifts and valued property items and thanks the community for the assistance in this case.
