RUSSELL (GH) — The body of a unidentified person found on Interstate 70 in Russell County early Friday is being investigated as a suicide and not as the victim of a hit and run as originally thought.
According to information provided by Troopers Tod Hileman and Ben Gardner of the Kansas Highway Patrol, just after 5 a.m. Friday a deceased person was located in the eastbound lanes of I-70 in Russell County. An unoccupied parked vehicle also was found on the shoulder of the highway.
Law enforcement initially searched for a vehicle originally believed to have left the scene after the crash with front end damage. That vehicle was located about 7 a.m., and just after 10 a.m., Hileman reported on Twitter that it was not a hit and run as originally believed.
The Kansas Highway Patrol's Critical Highway Accident Response Team diagrammed the scene.
The name of the deceased person is not being released at this point, Hileman said. More information will be release as it becomes available.
