SMITH CENTER — Fueled by a strong third quarter, the Thomas More Prep-Marian girls basketball team picked up a 57-41 win at Smith Center on Monday night.
The Monarchs (10-4) led by four at halftime before outscoring the Lady Red 18-6 in the third frame to pull away.
TMP placed three in double figures — Sasha Wasinger (14), Emilee Lane (13) and Jillian Lowe 12. Lane also grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
The Monarchs went 21 of 39 from the field for 54 percent while the Lady Red were 17 of 40 for 42.5 percent.
Bree Frieling led Smith Center with nine points.
SMITH CENTER BOYS 66, TMP-MARIAN 58
The TMP-Marian boys couldn’t recover from a rough first half, falling behind 16-9 by the end of the first quarter and 34-17 at halftime.
The Monarchs trimmed the deficit to nine points heading into the fourth quarter and tied it up in the final minute but couldn’t overtake the Redmen down the stretch, falling to 8-7 on the season.
Jackson Schulte led TMP with 19 points while Ryan Karlin added 14 for the Monarchs.
Smith Center was paced by Griffin Kuglar’s game-high 21. Austin Hobelmann chipped in 13 and Colby Benoit had 10.
TMP shot 38.5 percent from the field (20 of 52) while Smith Center shot 42 percent (18 of 43).
The TMP boys and girls will host Norton on Friday at Al Billinger Fieldhouse.
