Autopsies suggest the Friday shootings of a man and his son in Rawlins County were a murder-suicide, according to a press release from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
The KBI said in Wednesday afternoon’s release that the preliminary autopsies revealed Gary E. Withers, 74, died from a gunshot wound and called the death a homicide.
His son, Daniel “Danny” E. Withers, 41, died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the release.
Evidence suggests that Danny Withers shot his father and then shot himself, the KBI said.
An earlier press release from the KBI said Rawlins County Dispatch received a call Friday afternoon reporting a man had been shot at a residence on County Road B near the Thomas County line. Gary Withers was found dead at the residence. Daniel Withers’ body was found approximately a half mile away.
The release said the investigation is ongoing.
