Two Ellis County school districts continue interviews for their respective superintendents positions Wednesday evening.

Hays USD 489 will interview its third of four candidates. Michael Gower is superintendent of Phillipsburg USD 325 and Logan USD 326 in Phillips County. He is in his ninth year at Phillipsburg and his sixth at Logan.

In 2017, Gower became an adjunct professor in the College of Education at Fort Hays State University.

Gower will tour USD 489 facilities and meet with staff throughout the day. A public meet and greet session will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Rockwell Administration Center, 323 W. 12th.

The formal interview will be in an executive session scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. in the Rockwell Center.

The final USD 489 candidate will be announced Thursday, the day of that interview.

A new superintendent could be announced at Monday’s school board meeting, as an item on the agenda is approval of a contract for the new superintendent for the 2019-202 school. year.

Ellis USD 388 will interview its second candidate, Ellis High School Principal Corey Burton.

The school district will post and email a video presentation by Burton in lieu of a public meet and greet session. Burton returned to Ellis in January after undergoing a bone marrow transplant in October to treat acute myeloid leukemia.

He will interview with the Ellis school board in an executive session starting at 6:30 p.m. at the district office, 1011 Washington.

The third and final candidate for USD 388 will be named Thursday and will be in Ellis that day for tours and meeting wit the staff and public.
