The Kansas Department of Transportation has reopened I-70 in both directions from the Colorado border to Salina. Roads are still snowpacked and icy in areas and drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling in winter weather conditions.

Update 8 p.m.

I-70 westbound open from Hays to Colorado. Eastbound lanes Colorado to Hays remain closed.

I-70 Hays to Salina still closed both directions. 

U.S. 183 and 283 have re-opened.

Update 5:30 p.m.

KDOT has opened the westbound lanes of I-70 from Oakley to the Colorado border. The eastbound lanes remain closed.

Both directions of travel remain closed from Oakley to Salina.

Update 1:45 p.m.

From KDOT: I-70 has been closed between Goodland and Salina because of blizzard conditions in northwest Kansas.

Update 2 p.m.: U.S. Highway 183 north of Hays and U.S. Highway 283 north of WaKeeney are being closed.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is closing eastbound on-ramps to Interstate 70 from Hays to Russell and trying to clear traffic due to crashes near Gorham.

Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Tod Hileman tweeted shortly after noon a semi had jackknifed at mile marker 176, resulting in a pile-up of vehicles. A trooper's patrol vehicle was among those struck.

Multiple slide-offs have also been reported.
