HOISINGTON — The Thomas More Prep-Marian boys’ basketball team is headed back to the Class 3A state tournament.

The No. 2 seed in the Hoisington 3A sub-state, the Monarchs took out Lindsborg-Smoky Valley, the No. 5 seed, 60-35 on Saturday. Smoky Valley, which upset top seed Phillipsburg on Friday, ended its season at 9-13. The Monarchs jumped out to a 9-2 lead Saturday, then just needed to not give up any big runs the rest of the way.

The Monarchs led 23-8 at one point and entered the fourth quarter with a 37-24 lead.

The Monarchs will enter the 3A field at Hutchinson’s Sports Arena next week with a 13-10 mark.

TMP qualified last season in Class 3A, but was bounced 58-46 by Phillipsburg in the first round.
