A school resource officer was arrested Wednesday in connection with rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Mark A. Scheetz, 30, of Lansing, was arrested in Bonner Springs without incident, according to a news release from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

Scheetz worked as a school resource officer for about a year for the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools Police Department, according to the KBI. He was assigned to F.L. Schlagle High School.

Before working at the high school, Scheetz worked for the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office from 2016 to 2018.

Underwood said the alleged crimes are believed to have occurred when Scheetz was living in Norton County, between 2013 and 2015.

Underwood said the arrest stemmed from reports that Scheetz engaged in sex acts with a minor, sent lewd photos to minors and used electronic devices to solicit sex with minors.

Scheetz is being held in the Norton County Jail.
