The Fort Hays State baseball team took a pair of lopsided losses to Lindenwood in Sunday’s doubleheader at Larks Park, dropping 13-1 and 16-3 decisions.
The Tigers (3-23, 2-15 MIAA) struggled on the mound and defensively, giving up 31 hits on the day while committing eight errors.
FHSU starting pitcher Ryan Ruder up eight runs (six earned) in four-plus innings in the first game. Chase Werth surrendered five runs (four earned) in two innings of relief.
Lindenwood pitcher Kyle Hentis went all seven innings in the Lions' run-rule win, allowing one run on five hits to earn the win. Ryan Grasser drove in the Tigers’ lone run with a single in the sixth.
In Game 2, FHSU starter Ethan Booe allowed just two runs (one earned) on seven hits in six innings, but couldn’t get any run support.
Lindenwood broke it up open in the seventh off Tiger reliever Ryan Brown, who gave up five of the seven runs in the frame including a 3-run home run to Neil Fischer.
The Tigers scored all three of their runs in the eighth thanks to a 2-run double by Jared Haynes and an RBI single from Tyler Olsen.
Fort Hays will look to salvage the final game of the series against the Lions (16-5, 10-7 MIAA) at 1 p.m. Monday.
