Megan Flavin highlighted the Hays High girls swim team's performance in the Indians’ home meet, with the junior winning two events in the HHS Invitational on Monday at the Center for Health Improvement.
Flavin won the 50-yard freestyle in 28.01, edging Holcomb’s Lauren Jones by 0.8 seconds. She claimed the 100-yard freestyle by about six seconds over Junction City’s Karmen Freeman, with Flavin finishing in 1:01.82.
Hanna Dannar won the 100-yard backstroke for the Indians with a 1:29.92, about five seconds better than second-place Eva Gaer from Junction City. Hays’ Kayli Potter took third in the event with a 1:39.80 and Paige Beamer was fifth with a 1:44.65.
The Indians took second in the four-team meet, compiling 434 points. Junction City won the meet with 484. Dodge City was third with 420 while Holcomb was fourth with 178.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Hays High’s team of Kaitlyn Christen, Myranda Berner, Flavin and Siera Smith placed second in 2:23.46.
Hays’ Caitlin Leiker took third in the 500-yard free (8:05.37) and was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:55.77).
In the 100 free, Hays’ Taylor Deines joined Flavin with a top-five finish. Deines took fifth in 1:14.15.
Hays’ 400-yard free relay team of Cristen, Dannar, Berner and Deines took third in 5:23.72.
